Dental Work

So yesterday I had a nice lil ipromptu "root canal". Gee, that was fun. uuuuggghhhh okay really it was miserable. M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-E. I call from the office, tell Michael that they think I should have a root canal, and that they can do it now and are suggesting it, and after I'm done talking to him I'm in tears. The secretary/nurse says, "have you ever had a root canal?" I told her NO (it was the first time I met this doctor) and I was scared to death, and she said, "Oh really, it's not that bad,... you'll be surprised!"

HA HA. Well, surprise! It was bad.

Why am I NOT surprised? Dental work is terrible. I am honest with dentists too. I give them the chance to be all sweet and sensitive and calm my fears, if they were to so choose. I walked in and said, "look, you should know, I'm one of the many adults who are terrified of dental work" and what does the endodontist (?) say? He smiles and says, "me too!" ... oh, thank you, doc, that helps. you're cute. (not really)
And then when he's ready to begin the root canal I said, "I've never had one of these" and he says, "Me either!"

Well, thank you Mr.Funny Pants, aren't you hilarious today.

Of course I then followed that up with, "that's fine, as long as you've PERFORMED them before" lol.

Anyway, I was thinking about half way through, "well, they are probably right, you're completely numb, so this wouldn't be that bad...for the normal person" except for the fact that I'm not normal. I have TMJ, and fibromyalgia, and just having my jaw propped open like that, was pretty bad.

So today, needless to say, I'm still miserable (don't ask me why the pain medicine isn't working!) and resting it as much as I can but my jaw and left side of my face are killing me. It's lovely. The kids are looking at me pretty funny since I'm talking to them without moving my jaw (I sound really goofy!) or smiling or anything... they definitely know something is up with Mom.

My awesome hubby stayed home most of the day and just went in for a meeting this afternoon. I'm not looking forward to next Friday when they play in my mouth again to give me a temporary crown. Then I'll have to go back after the baby is born for a permanent crown. I don't even know all what's involved, but I know I'm not looking forward to next Friday! Any prayers would be greatly appreciated.
