Bedrest

So, I went in to see the midwives early due to pain issues (instead of my 6 week postpartum check, Benjamin will be 5 weeks this Thursday...) and it's a good thing that I did. I saw them this morning and unfortunately it was bad news.

As I suspected I have not been healing properly and the midwife told me I needed to "lay on my side" in order for the tear to stay closed and heal.
(I'm keeping this as simple as possible so feel free to call or email me if you have questions) but basically for the rest of the week and the weekend I am on bedrest.

As you can imagine this poses a problem seeing as I have two other children to care for... but once again my sweet husband and my AMAZING parents are stepping in and doing the best they can, and we're hiring a babysitter for some coverage as well.
I'm depressed and it's definitely not how I intended to spend my Holy Week or Easter but, you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm going to attempt to make the most of this "rest" time I guess... it'll probably be the most rest I get for the next couple years. ha ha

I'd greatly appreciate your prayers for a speedy recovery!

Life is never dull! :)

Baby Smiles

They say babies start smiling around 6 weeks... Benjamin is only 3 weeks...

But what can I say? He's a HAPPY little guy!

p.s. Sorry this picture isn't that great, I was trying to hold him with my left hand, kiss his cheek to make him smile, and take a picture with my right... it was tricky! We'll try to get some better ones of his sweet smile!

BIG Ben!

Benjamin had his one week check-up today... before I tell you how much he weighed... let me remind you of his birthweight-- 7 lbs 15 oz... and then he dropped to 7 lbs 7 oz in the first few days.
Well today... a whole TEN DAYS old... Benjamin tipped the scales at 8 lbs 14 oz!!! That's right- almost a pound over his birthweight already! The pediatrician was tickled pink! She said, "You must be making cream!" HA HA- What can I say? I can grow a baby and I can sustain 'em. I really can't take credit though, it IS God's design after all ;)

Next on the agenda is my heart evaluation on Wednesday morning. I have an ECHO scheduled as well as a Holter Monitor. Due to the significant heart palpitations I was having at the end of my pregnancy and after Benjamin's birth, I need to just get checked out to make sure everything's ok. I'm sure nothing will come of it, but that's a good thing.

So far I've survived the first day of being home alone with all three kids. I'm exhausted, and BOY do they keep me on my toes! It's um, joyful chaos. Yes, that's a good way to describe it. Until next time...

Happy 1 Week Benjamin!

Hard to believe it was already one week ago that "baby Ben" joined our family! Big brother Josiah is more in love each day and happily dreaming up all the fun he will have "when Baby Ben is big enough to...." you fill in the blank. Any assortment of fun boy things- dig in the mud, jump in puddles, play LEGOs, drive cars, etc. Lydia is doing remarkably well... and although she's still a little out of sorts and today was throwing tantrums after her nap, I think she's actually adjusting pretty well. It'll be different I'm sure next week when we don't have Daddy around to help out and give extra love and cuddles too! She loves to "ug! ug!" (hug) baby Ben and give kisses on his head.

Well... today I've been doing too much, and am already getting wiped. But I'm just so sick of resting and not being able to do anything because of the pain! It's been a week people! I need to get back on track. Hopefully I'll start feeling better soon, enough is enough ;o)

We are loving every minute getting to know our sweet little boy. Happy 1 Week Benjamin! We love you and our lives will never be the same.
