Summer Science and Splashin'

We got a membership to the Maryland Science Center this year- and let me tell you- it has been fun. Since there is absolutely SO much to see and do there, you pretty much need a membership to get your money's worth. The kids would be happy playing in JUST the Kid Zone alone. We haven't even seen everything yet, despite having gone already about 4 times. Anyway, the last time we were there it was me (Mommy!) and my Dad- Grandpa and the 3 musketeers ;) Here is a picture of "See-Saw Science" at the "Wonder Warehouse" exhibit...

Apparently 1 Grandpa = Josiah + Lydia
Ta da!!!

I have many pictures but it'd take me forever to get them all up... let's just leave it at- it's really fun- and if you ever have the chance to go, you should do it!

I'd have to say our favorite part of the harbor (and why I always bring a change of clothes for each kid!) is the interactive fountain. It is open for splashing and throughout the day there are "shows" where their is music playing and the water dances up and down. The kids love to play in it- and last time Josiah just went hog wild dancing and jumping and getting COMPLETELY soaked. I just watched and giggled. He was hilarious, and it was so much fun.
Here is a photographer's picture of the fountain I found online- it's a great photo if you can see it...

And here's my little guy in the fountain!

Right in the center! He was having so much fun. If I get around to it, I'll post some of the lil videos of him being wacky and jumping all around in there.

Little gal splashin' in little puddles next to the fountain. So cute!

We're looking forward to our next Harbor trip with Uncle Ken and Aunt Emily this Saturday.
If you want to visit the fabulous Inner Harbor downtown Baltimore... come visit us! ;)

I'm in trouble...

My baby boy is not quite 6 months, and is rolling and scooting all over my floor. OH, and he's in size 4 diapers now. He is getting so big and sure seems to be getting more mobile. Yikes...wish me luck once he's crawling!

Lydia playing dress-up

These are pretty much the only "dress-up" clothes we have so far... but I got them at yard sales... gotta love it! She's too cute. Can't believe my little girl will be 2 soon!

Educating for Eternity - Our decision to Homeschool

Well, after much prayer and much research, we're excited to say that we are now homeschooling Josiah this upcoming fall (only a month away now!) with our first official curricula, the PreK-Kindergarten materials from Catholic Heritage Curricula (http://www.chcweb.com/)

After looking into the materials more we are so excited for all that we are going to be doing together soon. Josiah is just going to LOVE the lesson plans, the "Little Stories for Little Folks" phonics readers, the Angel Antics coloring pages, and most of all, the time he gets with Mommy, laughing and learning and discovering life together. There's "CORE" subject materials for Language Arts, Math, and Religion, and "Non-Core" Subject Materials for Social Studies, Art, Music, Science, and Physical Education. The greatest part is that everything is laid out for me and already planned, and right now since I'm just beginning, and also have a 2 yr old and 6 month old to care for simultaneously, OH and that pesky little thing called fibromyalgia, this is really looking like it's going to work for us. Some may think I'm crazy... in fact, sometimes I think I'm crazy to try to juggle all these things... so I know where you're coming from ;) But really, this is a calling. This is a vocation that I feel that God has been preparing me to do my entire life.
Trust me... I kinda wish I could just "wave goodbye" as I send my kids off on the big yellow "take a breather" bus for awhile sometimes. But then I remember a few things....
1)- I'm never going to say at the end of this life, "Gosh I spent way too much time with my kids!"
2)- I feel responsible for my children's minds... AND their souls. The latter of which I'm actually more concerned about.
2)- Deuteronomy 11:18:19-- "Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
If I send my children to school 8 hours a day... that's a lot of sitting down and getting up and walking about that I miss opportunities to teach them about Christ. As long as I have that opportunity, I'm going to take it.

Michael is excited for our journey too, and here's what Daddy has to say about it all...
"I'm happy that we're homeschooling because my wife is going to be my child's best teacher. She already is. I can leave for work in the morning and know that all day he's going to be in a safe environment and I know what I can expect him to encounter in any given day. He's not going to walk into his classroom and have some kid punch him in the face, or teach him a new word that we didn't want him to hear. I'm also really excited that with this curriculum we can incorporate our faith into everything he learns. He's a smart kid, and this way he won't feel like he's ahead of the class or be bored. Teacher's can't always adjust to the needs of each child, especially a child who is ahead and not behind, because they have so many students."

I realize that homeschooling "isn't for everyone" and honestly, we are taking this one step at a time, one child at a time, one year at a time. We also think that the first few years are the most formative, and if we can give our children a solid foundation, they'll be better prepared to face the challenges and the darkness of sin that this world will throw at them, which we know are many. For NOW, this is what is best for us and our family, and we are really excited and proud to begin this journey. God is starting something amazing in my little boy... and I can't wait to see what he becomes and then to see how he changes lives and the world for the better.

Much more to come! :)

Visit with Charity!

Last week we got to visit with Aunt Charity while she was in town! (She was in town helping poor Gwen who had minor surgery... glad to hear things are healing well Gwen and we're praying for you!) Can you tell that Benjamin enjoyed his time with Charity while the other kiddos were napping?

It was so great to see you Charity, and we hope we get to see you again soon...
(and the rest of your wonderful family!)

Beach Fun!

It'd take me forever to upload all my beach pictures... but here are some highlights from when we went to the beach in early July:
Benjamin rockin' the swim trunks! Oh so adorable. (I'm so in love with this baby!)

Daddy and Lydia in the geysers (what would you call these? haha) at the Pirate Splash Park!
Lydia was smacking the tops of the water down, very cute.

Josiah and Daddy under the mushroom waterfall

Daddy and Josiah swimmin in the pool! He was very brave this year and did a lot of "swimming" on his own with his floaties. I think the "Pirate Pool" is Josiah's favorite place in the world. Sadly- I don't think I have a picture of him going down the slide this year! But I know he did enjoy it! Grandma or Grandpa might have one.

Grandma and Lydia enjoying a little snack of strawberries by the pool.

Like Grandfather like Grandson.

Ben's first time in the sand and seeing the ocean!
(We will leave out the part where Ben and I sat by the surf for a picture and Grandma didn't notice the large wave coming in from behind and Ben got sand and sea water up to his NECK as I quickly lifted him out of the water... Umm... yeahhh... welcome to the ocean Ben! haha. He wasn't so happy about that!)

Benjamin lookin cute on the beach blanket :)

A very tired Lydia resting on Daddy's shoulder on the beach

Lydia had the most fun digging in sand with cups and a little bucket of water. Easy to please! ;)

My big boy playing at the beach!

Mama and all her little ducklings ;)

Josiah playing  mini-golf at the hotel! This year he was really getting the hang of it and having fun playing.

Lydia playing mini-golf... AKA- Hold club with one hand- drop ball in hole with the other! very cute. She also had to have the "PINK BALL!"

Daddy and the big kids taking a break from their (HOT!) bike ride and posing by the Marlin Fountain as you enter Ocean City.

Nice picnic dinner by the pool!

Daddy and Happy Baby Ben! :) relaxing by the splash park

Josiah and his new pet... "Crabby" The Hermit Crab ;)

Well... hope you enjoyed a little bit of our beach fun! We had a great time!
